Ouça – Listen
Samba Fogo proudly presents Ouça – Listen, an evening of live music and dance, on fire!
Drawing on rich Afro-Brazilian culture and mythology, Samba Fogo will ignite the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, as they weave traditional and contemporary dance, fire spinning, and diverse live music. Ouça – Listen will feature original musical compositions, sound scores, and high-energy choreography, performed by a cast of over 35 spectacular artists including a dance company of 12. The live band for this year’s concert includes vocalists Solange Gomes and George Edgar Brown, hailing from São Paulo and Brasilia, Brazil. These talented vocalists will be backed by a string quintet, a horn line, and a mobile “bateria” Brazilian drum line – a diverse and dynamic orchestra, providing a rhythmic and musical backdrop inspired by traditions from Cuba, Africa, and Brazil. With this unique concert, Samba Fogo hopes to inspire audiences to listen – to themselves, to others, to the Earth, and of course, to good live music. Dancers will work with natural elements to inspire an honoring of the Earth in their movements.
Ouça – Listen will take audiences on a journey from deeply-rooted dance traditions of Africa and Brazil, through classic samba music and dance styles, all the way to the ornate costuming and fancy footwork of Brazilian Carnival celebrations.
Samba Fogo’s annual Spring Concert has gained a reputation for providing audiences an exciting, culturally rich, and heart-pounding experience. It has become a local tradition over the years, drawing audiences from all over the Western United States.
Samba Fogo is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural arts organization inspired many years ago by the excitement and beauty of Afro-Brazilian music and dance. For over a decade Samba Fogo has been enriching the community and inspiring others through live performance and arts education along the Wasatch Front and throughout the Western United States.
